Whether you are restoring an historic building or designing a new one, Lambs can assist. We relish large, complex projects, but are equally happy advising you on a replacement cill, an arch or a flight of stone steps for your garden.
To make sure we understand your exact requirements, we visit and survey your site from ground level or from your scaffolding. Our surveyor will then provide you with a brief report, a quote and samples of your chosen materials.
When you place your order, we revisit the site to start production of full-scale working drawings for your approval before we begin manufacture. The process is fast and thorough.
We provide precise working drawings suitable for use by architects, engineers, planning and conservation officers, building conservationists, builders, developers and homeowners. Gauged arches, special bricks and carvings are all designed with the most up-to-date CAD packages.
Where complex elevation detailing is involved, we often provide 3D camera projection drawings. This enables you to better visualise the finished product.
To ensure quality and the authentic characteristics of our traditional materials, most of our products are made by hand at our brickworks or in the stone masonry workshops at Philpots quarry. Our brick handmakers and our brick and stonemasons have all served a minimum five-year apprenticeship.
We regularly match bricks and stones for extensions and restoration work, as well as for new builds that need to blend in with existing buildings. Initially you can send us a sample and photographs, although we prefer to visit you on site to see the materials in their environment.
Because we have kilns with varying temperatures, we sort the fired bricks into colour groups that, used alone or blended, will match many buildings. We always provide a sample first, so that you can be confident they will be a match.
For stone masonry, existing stone textures can be recreated by our masons.
Our brick and stonemasons are talented craftsmen capable of creating exquisite detailing in brick or stone. They have all served a minimum minimum five-year apprenticeship, and for some the craft goes back three generations.
Where appropriate we can also use technology to engrave precise patterns or lettering into stone. This is suitable for name or date stones.
We have extended the care that goes into making our products to our delivery service. All of our products are precisely packaged and clearly labelled for those installing them, and our drivers are skilled in handling the trays of intricate mouldings we manufacture. We have even developed a patented system for packaging our stone cills to make sure they arrive in perfect condition.
We export materials worldwide.
