Handmade Bricks and Natural Building Stone.
Lambs offer a unique selection of handmade bricks, gauged arches and Natural Wealden Sussex Sandstone for quality building restoration and new build projects.
Since Victorian times Lambs craftsmen have passed knowledge down from Father to Son and established a reputation for excellence. Lambs manufacture handmade bricks, arches and specials in a myriad of colours, textures and sizes supplied from our own brickworks.
Lambs extract natural Wealden Sussex Sandstone from their own Philpots Quarry in West Hoathly, which is the sole remaining source of the material. This geological formation is also referred to as Tunbridge Wells Sandstone.
At the Quarry Lambs craftsmen are expert in shaping this unique beautiful natural stone and our natural limestones Port Lime & Port Regent into walling and stone masonry to fulfil any requirement.
Lambs materials are very versatile, and if you do not see a product to meet your individual needs on our website, we may still be able to help.
However small or large your project needs are, please call our Sales Teams for bricks 01403 785141, or for natural stone on 01342 811311.

An individual service to suit you
Whether you are restoring an historic building or designing a new building
in an authentic style, Lamb's can assist. Since Victorian times we have offered
our customers an unrivalled selection of authentic facing bricks and complementary
stone, terracotta and faience. Today we also offer an efficient and flexible
design service to help define and meet your needs, both precisely and promptly.
Combining traditional manufacturing skills and the best of modern technology,
Lamb's are able to deliver materials to exceed your expectations.
The service we provide
Ordering your materials from Lamb's means you can ensure they are sympathetically
matched and compliment each other beautifully. Whether your requirements are
large or small, intricate or straightforward, you are guaranteed the same high
quality service. To make sure we know your exact requirements, we will visit
your site and survey the materials needed. We will then provide a report, quotation
and samples. On receipt of your order, we produce full-scale working drawings
for your approval prior to manufacture. The process is fast but thorough. And
- at least for our customers - we ensure it is painless.
Design
Taking the strain
Our design service relieves you of the task of surveying details and providing
working drawings. So, whatever your perspective - architect, civil engineer,
developer, builder, or member of the public, - Lamb's make life easier. We have
embraced modern technology to enhance our design process. Gauged arches, special
bricks and carvings are designed with the most up-to-date CAD packages. Where
complex elevation detailing is involved we often provide 3D camera projection
drawings for approval. Such technology benefits our customers who can better
visualise the finished product.
Manufacture
In the blood
To ensure their authentic characteristics, most Lamb's products are made by
hand. Working on detailed products requires considerable skill and patience.
Hence, our brick and terracotta makers serve a minimum five-year apprenticeship.
Clay manufacturing runs in the blood and some families have worked with the
company for three generations. The accumulated knowledge of just nine members
of our production team totals more than 150 years.
The burning question
We fire our products in a number of customised and controlled ways, depending
on what is required of the final item. In general, our bricks are fired in a
clamp, the oldest method of all, dating back to the Pharaohs. A clamp is a stack
of moulded and dried bricks set for burning that does not have any permanent
structure. Clamp firing gives Lamb's bricks their authentic appearance and characteristics.
Delivery
Down to the last detail
Lamb's are proud of their products and services and carry that quality through
to delivery. Products are carefully packed to ensure they arrive in perfect
condition. Our drivers are skilled in handling trays of, for example, intricate
mouldings. When required, products are individually labeled to facilitate their
placement.
